One of the quickest ways to change your profit is to change your prices.

The problem is that too many business owners don’t understand just how big an impact a small change can have…for good or bad.

It’s January and there are a lot of New Year sales on. You might have thought of having one yourself. A discount can bring more sales, but in too many cases those sales don’t actually lead to profits.

For example, did you know that, if your gross margin is 30% and you reduce your price by 10%, you’d need to increase your sales by 50% to get the same profits? That’s a lot of extra sales.

An offer can be a really powerful tool but only if used wisely to either drive a lot of extra sales, or to get a new customer to try you out…before buying more of your product/service at the full price in the future.

Therefore, we put together this guide to discounts (and price increases) so you can make any price decision wisely.

Now, I have shared this before but I was talking about it on my Live Web Event yesterday, and a client also brought it up just before Christmas…so I’m not apologising for the repeat!

Discounting can be a useful strategy, as long as you understand the numbers. The good news is that a small price increase can lead to a large increase in profits.

I now have two tasks for you:

  1. Make sure you understand the impact of price changes
  2. Think about what resources you have that your customers find useful but you haven’t shared in a while

And a third task – make a brilliant start to 2026!
