Darren Biddlecombe qualified as a charted accountant in 1991 and spent the first half of his career working as audit manager for National and Global accountancy firms. Darren has spent the last 11 years acting as Group Financial Director for Kays Medical Limited. Working for the company for such a long time, Darren was able to oversee and help the company’s profits to grow massively. He is now working with us, and we can’t wait to see what he can contribute to our team!
We caught up with Darren to find out a little bit more about him…
What do you like to do outside work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my two teenage children Tom and Penny. A lot of my time revolves around making them happy, even if this does come at my expense! Over the last 5 years, I have been attending CrossFit training. I never used to do any exercise, but now I love it! Although I don’t enjoy it in the moment, the endorphins released afterwards are great and I always leave feeling happy.
Where is your favourite place?
My favourite place has got to be New York as I lived there for a year when I was 18. It is safe to say, I went there to find myself and got well and truly lost!! I went back for my 40th and I am still in love with the city.
What is your favourite and least favourite food?
I tend to love all foods. If I had to choose, I would probably say Chinese food is my favourite and Italian is my least favourite. Although, I’ve got to admit, I am a creature of habit! I will always get the same thing and never adventure to try anything new.
Tell me an interesting fact about yourself
I would probably say the fact that I lived in New York for a year. I would say that is pretty interesting!
What did you want to do when you were growing up?
When I was a child, I always wanted to go into the TV or film industry. I did actually attend drama school for about 6 months at the age of ten. However, Heinz beans crushed my dreams when they didn’t choose me for their advert!
Tell us about your role
I will be working alongside Louise preparing accounts, VATs, SATRs and management accounts. I will also be using my experience as a Financial Director to assist clients in strategy meetings.
What do you like about working at JDA?
The culture is great! I am enjoying working within a small team, and everybody seems to get on great. There is such a friendly atmosphere in the office, whether this is between staff or even between the team and the clients. The team completely contradicts the ideology of accountants being stuffy and formal and there is a great blend between professional work and an informal working environment. Jon and Louise are also great, they value each and every staff members opinion and input.
