As 2017 draws to a close, how did you do this year? And how are you going to make sure you have a great 2018??

One of the best ways of ensuring that you do have a great 2018 is to have some clear, simple goals….and a plan to achieve them.

For 2018, why not make it really simple and take a piece of A4 and write “By the end of 2018…..” and set out 5 bullet points. And then put 5 simple, clear goals.

And make these goals as clear and measurable as possible. With specific figures where relevant. It could be your turnover. Or number of clients. Or hours worked each week. Whatever you want.

The next step is to look at where you are now on each of the 5 goals…..and calculate the gap.

Lastly, note down what you’re going to need to do to fill that gap. And when you’ll do it.

And make it meaningful, rather than just a number. For example, if you need to find an extra £1m and your average client pays you £20,000, it would be much simpler to say “I’ll get 1 new client every week”. It ends up at the same £1m, but is crystal clear and gives a focus to each week.

It helps to have actions that will then lead to those sales. To get 1 client, you might need to have 2 meetings. And to have 2 meetings, you might need to make 10 phone calls. So, your task is to make 10 phone calls every week. That’s an actionable task that will get you where you want to be.

Someone recently told me they were starting to plan their 2019 now, because 2018 is already planned – they just need to turn up.

So, why not have a think over the Christmas holidays and set your business goals and resolutions for next year? And then exceed them all in 2018!

And, if you need a kick during the year to get there, just let us know.
